Georgetown Mayor & City Council employees caught dumping garbage on streets #guyana

Dear Sir:
On the morning of Wednesday 5th November, 2014 I witnessed a most bizarre incident, even by our ludicrous standards here in Guyana .

Three employees of the Mayor & City Council of Georgetown were dumping bins of garbage on the side of the street. This occurred at the corner of Schumacker & Water Street [behind the abandoned co-operative bank]. This corner and the entire block always has mountains of garbage and the stench of feces and urine is nauseating.

Right on cue an as expected in this phantasmagoric realm we call Guyana; all this takes place outside the Ministry of Human Services & Social Security. Because we care! is the new mantra.

After being confronted by drivers and other passers by the City employees let loose a series of expletives and one punctuated it by saying, “tell who de scunt yuh want tell, [Carol] Sooba tell we dump it here. Is she we wukkin fuh not you”

I was under the notion, now seemingly mis-guided, that the selected town clerk and the national government was on a mission to clean up the city. As opposed to moving garbage from plain sight and dumping it on side streets.

I applaud the men who confronted these rascals and brought it to my attention in the first place. Their phone cameras caused instant panic for these foot soldiers of General Sooba. Knowing fully well they were in the wrong, they initially covered their faces as they realised they were being photographed.

It gave me a boost to see there are people still here actively fighting to drag this runaway train to nowhere country out from the abyss and save us further bedlam.

humble regards,
Mark Jacobs
