President Granger checking out junk stuff at Food for the Poor office
Saw this picture of President Granger touring the Food for the Poor place in South Ruimveldt and an old thought came back to mind.
I spent about half my life away from Guyana and I’d never heard of this food for the poor business. Initially I thought it was a Guyana charity and the name irked me. It would take a while for me to realize this Food for the Poor business is international.
after the 2010 tranbleman dtè I went to Haiti and there was food for the poor and in the Dominican republic too. back in Guyana I came back and saw food for the poor was celebrating it’s twenty odd year of operation.
maybe it’s just me, but why should an organization of this nature be encouraged? if you’re around two decades on in this type of business then maybe something is working as the ranks of the poor keep swelling. and they are adding new branches and chapters!
the PPP had and still has no decency or pride. None. under PPP mis-rule, food for the poor almost became an arm of the govt building houses, giving out shoes, food, seeds and even providing the beds for the sand creek secondary school .
over 70 million was supposedly spent on this boarding school which may one day fall down or get crushed by boulders rolling down the mountain. typical ppp, they built a boarding school and neglected to buy beds. food for the poor had to donate those.
former minister with the $2 million teeth Pauline red shirt Sukhai inspects the Sand Creek Secondary School Dormitory
THE Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has received support from Food for the Poor (FFP) to outfit the Sand Creek Secondary School dormitory in Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo), and during a recent visit by Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Ms. Pauline Sukhai, she delivered 30 single-bed mattresses donated to the Ministry from the organisation.
Sukhai explained that the Ministry immediately thought of the school as ideal for the mattresses upon receiving the donation.
how pathetic!
it’s shameful to see food for the poor had to build a chicken pen at kuru kuru training centre but not only that buy the chicken, the feed, the vitamins and plucking machine. this is a govt owned and operated institution run by the ministry of culture
say what you will about Forbes Burnham, but an organization like Food for the Poor would’ve never been allowed to exist on these shores.
David Granger says his number one priority is the elimination of poverty and a good life for all Guyanese. I know he’s smart enough to understand that food for the poor is part of the problem. to be quite honest, most of that stuff is junk the americans couldn’t find uses for. other products are specially made to be dumped on the lesser souls of the world by the humanitarian industrial complex. tax write offs, incentives and benefits abounds.
if yuh think i lie or I being too harsh. go to haiti and see for yourselves the death and destruction brought on by these agents of relief. and yes, i did say death.
if we’re truly on a path to liberation and self sufficiency we would ask Food for the Poor to wind up its operations here as we wouldn’t be needing the likes of them any longer. fighting poverty demands it.

yep. organizations like this should be working themselves out of existence. anything else is being part of the problem.
